Robert Downey Jr. is a Hollywood superstar. He is best known for playing the suave Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU and has a net worth of $300 million. Fans around the world want to emulate his character. However, according to his wife Susan Downey, he was far from cool and calm when they met. In fact, Mrs. Downey found him odd. But she was also so impressed by his antics that she got engaged to him a few months after dating.

In a 2014 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Susan Downey shared her first impression of Robert Downey Jr. She said she met her future husband in 2003 while he was starring in the film Gothic with Hall Berry. Mrs. Downey produced the film through production company Silver Pictures. Since it was her first full-credit producing job, she didn’t want to get involved with one of the leads and risk mixing her personal and professional lives. But that wasn’t all, she also seemed to find him rather strange.

According to Susan Downey:
“We were up in Montreal preparing Gothika and we had lunch with the director and Halle Berry. Everyone else ordered Japanese, but Robert told us that oatmeal was the “superfood.” He brought his own packet of oatmeal for lunch. And he had this box of different herbs and stuff. And then he started doing these yoga moves. I mean he was interesting but weird.”
But she clearly found him more interesting than funny because she had agreed to date him. Within three months of dating, Downey Jr. proposed. While his wife-to-be accepted, she wanted a long engagement — two years because she wanted him to give up drugs entirely, if not she would leave. Clearly the iron man The actor got together because the two got married in 2005. They now run Team Downey, their production company, and have two children together.

Will Robert Downey Jr. return as Iron Man?
After the end of Avengers: Endgame broke everyone’s heart, the fans only wanted one thing – to see Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man again. While there has been endless speculation about his return in the supposedly multiverse film, Avengers: Secret Wars, no concrete confirmation has been given by anyone associated with Marvel Studios. Recently at Emerald City Comic-Con, Mark Ruffalo was asked if he was sad to see Downey Jr. and Chris Evans leaving the MCU. He said he was upset but also hinted that his friends could come back.

According to Ruffalo:
“Sorry, but there is a time machine. And there are alternate universes and realities, so anything could happen. Will one of these boards fall on me? Man, are you trying to get me in trouble again? I’m not going to say it’s not possible, but I’m not going to say it’s possible.”
However, Marvel producer Stephen Broussard told io9 that the MCU is busy bringing in new characters to continue the various superhero cloaks. He said, “After these first 10 years of Marvel storytelling, torches are passed on in a way that Robert Downey Jr. no longer exists [on the] table and things like that.” But fans do not lose hope and are waiting for the beloved actor to put on the Iron Man suit again.
Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled for release on May 1, 2026.
