Sharpton agrees: “Use the cool setting to lock the elevator,” he adds. You might even want to turn on the cool setting while blow-drying. “Once you have cut and curled the hair around the brush, press the cool air button to cool the hair and set the style. It creates a durable look,” he adds.
To keep your style looking fresh for as long as possible, consider protecting your strands while you sleep. Tossing and turning all night is a recipe for flat, lifeless (not to mention tangled) curls. “One of the easiest ways to keep curls intact longer is to tie your hair in a ponytail at the front of your forehead with a hair tie over it when you sleep,” Sharpton adds. “This helps prevent the curls from being roughened up while you sleep. Plus, silk pillowcases can help reduce frizz.”
