Chinese President Xi Jinping could delve deeper into Ukrainian diplomacy than before as early as next week, staging both his first trip to Russia and his first talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy since the invasion of Moscow.
Several sources familiar with the plans said Xi could visit Moscow next week, an earlier-than-expected trip in response to a long-standing invitation from President Vladimir Putin. The Wall Street Journal reported on his plans to also hold a video conference with Zelenskyy, citing sources that could not immediately be independently confirmed.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Kremlin said it had nothing to announce yet. The Office of the President of Ukraine did not immediately respond.
