Moscow’s diplomatic channels are again leaking content to smear Rome’s military aid to Kyiv, which the sixth decree – which includes a new batch of air defense systems – aims to boost
More Russian propaganda on Italian vehicles. In recent days, the Russian embassy in Italy has tried to tarnish its host country’s image by repeatedly raising doubts about the nature, quality and effectiveness of Italian military supplies to Ukraine.
- The penultimate post of this type appeared on Friday and claimed to show an armored vehicle made in Italy. Defense Secretary Guido Crosetto fought back the “apparent fake news,” noting that the issue was not an Iveco Lince 4×4 vehicle (as claimed in the post), but an MLS sign.
- On Tuesday the Russian Embassy I posted another video shows a vehicle on fire. “For the Russian military who filmed this video, it doesn’t matter which Italian military vehicles are burning near Soledar: Iveco 4×4 or MLS Shield. They burn more or less the same way.”
However, according to numerous sources, not only the Ukrainian Armed Forces own vehicles made in Italy. The Russian Army also has hundreds of Iveco Lince 4×4s under an old contract that was canceled in 2013. The Italian vehicle, which was also bought by many other nations, was preferred to the domestic GAZ Tigr product.
Meanwhile, Italy is preparing further military aid. republic reports that the sixth weapons decree is ready and expected to be passed in the coming days. As is customary, Minister Crosetto will explain its contents (which are classified) to Parliament’s intelligence committee, COPASIR.
- Still, it is well known that the next military aid package will include air defense systems, namely the Aspide surface-to-air missiles, useful for defending a city from Russian missile barrage.
- As for the more advanced SAMP/T missile shield, the issue is technically more complicated, with some components being supplied by Rome and others by Paris. Nonetheless, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani recently confirmed that the Italian government was “working closely with the French” to ensure supplies.
