The USMNT successfully made it through the knockout stages of the World Cup after defeating Iran.
This is the first time in eight years that the USMNT has competed in the round of 16.
US men’s national team player Antonee Robinson comforted a sobbing Iranian soccer player after the United States’ victory at the World Cup on Tuesday, which eliminated Iran from the tournament and knocked them out of the race for a spot in the next round.
In a video circulating on social mediaRobinson can be seen hugging Iranian player Ramin Rezaeian after the game while Rezaeian sobs into Robinson’s shoulder.
The pair appear to be exchanging words, but it’s unclear what they said to each other.
The USA secured their place in the World Cup round of 16 on Tuesday after finishing second in the knockout round of Group B behind England and ahead of Wales and Iran.
The win didn’t come without injuries to key players, however – Christian Pulisic and Josh Sargent were substituted out of the game after suffering stomach and ankle injuries respectively.
This is the first time in eight years that the USMNT has successfully progressed through the knockout stages and advanced to the knockout stages.
The USMNT meets the Netherlands at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday.
