Trump warns DeSantis about 2024 White House bid, saying it wouldn’t be ‘good’ for the GOP

Former President Trump warned Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) against running for president in 2024 in a new interview.

“I don’t know if he’s running. I think if he runs he could hurt himself very badly. I really think he could get seriously injured,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News late Monday after a rally in Ohio. “I think he would make a mistake. I think the base wouldn’t like it. I don’t think it would be good for the party.”

“Any of these things are not good. You have other people who might be running I think,” Trump added. “I don’t know if he’s running. When he runs, he runs.”

The former president also suggested that he knows unflattering information about DeSantis that he would be willing to share if the two were to face each other in a primary.

Despite those comments, which were clearly trying to slam DeSantis, Trump denied there was any kind of “tiff” between the two men and called the Florida governor a “fine guy.”

Trump appeared Monday preparing to launch a third White House bid, telling supporters in Ohio that he would make a major announcement on November 15 at his Mar-a-Lago, Florida estate.

Trump has been walking more freely in recent days after DeSantis, widely viewed as perhaps Trump’s most viable rival in a potential GOP primary.

At a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Trump taunted the Florida governor as “Ron DeSanctimonious” as he read out poll numbers he picked that showed he was leading among voters over potential key challengers.

Trump also held a rally in Miami on Sunday but did not invite DeSantis, who is up for re-election on Tuesday. But at that rally, Trump urged supporters to vote for the governor, and Trump himself cast his ballot for DeSantis on Tuesday.
