Hong Kong star Andy Lau says he drinks 20 cups of coffee a day, including before bed


Hong Kong actor Andy Lau says he drinks more than 20 cups of coffee a day as it calms him down and even helps him sleep at night.

The 61-year-old actor, singer and film producer recently released in the Douyin program “Opening Remarks” to promote his latest film, “The wandering earth 2.” Co-star Wu Jing and director Frant Gwo joined him on the talk show.

As Jing, who also starred alongside Lau in the 2019 film, “The Wandering Earth‘ mentioned that the large amount of coffee the director drinks is that only constant Between working on the first and second film, Andy interjected, “Who drinks more coffee? You or I?”

Frant responded that he drinks about five or six cups a day, to which Lau replied, “I still drink 20+ cups.”

Shocked by his answer, Jing asked, “20 cups? Is your anti-aging look the result of 20 cups of coffee?”

“Drinking other drinks doesn’t work, and I can’t have cold drinks,” Lau said. “I get scolded for it by my family [drinking] Coffee. I’m not allowed to have coffee at home, so I like working.”

While many others experience side effects like nausea, increased heart rate, and muscle tremors from consuming high doses of caffeine, Lau showed his experience to be quite the opposite.

Rather, Lau said coffee calms him down and he even has a cup before bed.

“It hypnotizes me,” the actor said.

Work outDuring his nine-year diet as a vegetarian, Lau said, “As long as there’s no meat, I’ll eat it. I cook with vegetable oil and eat less sugary and salty foods.”
