An angry Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) passionately appealed to Fox News viewers on Thursday that impeachable former President Donald Trump needs their money, and he needs it now.
Speaking to Sean Hannity on a night when commentary on Fox News bordered on the apocalyptic following a Manhattan grand jury indictment, Graham, historically one of Trump’s most talkative defenders in the Senate, once again delivered a performance that sure to keep him in Trump’s good graces.
Graham stated that the motivating factor in the indictment was “hate,” arguing that Democrats “fear Trump at the ballot box.”
‘They’re trying to dry him out. He spent more money on lawyers than most people do on campaigns,” Graham said. In addition to indictment in New York, Trump faces a criminal investigation in Georgia over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and a criminal investigation by the Justice Department over his alleged misuse of classified documents since leaving office. Trump’s alleged rape of journalist E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s is also the subject of a trial scheduled to begin in April.
Graham, eyes tired, directed viewers to the presidential candidate’s website three times in the next two minutes.
“Go tonight. Give the President some money to fight this bullshit!” he asked.
“To those listening tonight, if you think Trump is being treated badly and wrongly, stand up and help the man,” Graham later added, before recommending that their prayers would also be welcome.
“Thank you,” said an appreciative Hannity to applause from his studio audience.
At one point during the interview, a heckler in the audience could be heard yelling, “This is a beautiful day. You lie by omission and you lie.” The studio audio was cut before the woman could continue.
