Aubrey Plaza’s stylist says they wanted underboob amid criticism of the White Lotus star’s risqué SAG Awards dress

Aubrey Plaza won a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role as part of the “White Lotus” cast on Sunday. But after she walked the red carpet and took the stage, some viewers thought her dress didn’t quite fit her.

Plaza wore a bronze custom Michael Kors dress with a criss-cross neckline and a large cleavage at the bodice. The cleavage exposed her rib cage, abs and underbust. There was also a front slit that went up to Plaza’s thigh, showing off her bronze heeled sandals.

According to Vogue, she also accessorized the dress with Mouawad jewelry, which was valued at more than $1.2 million.

On Monday, an Instagram account called Check the Tag shared a photo of Plaza on the red carpet, and one person commented that the straps on her dress “could be better adjusted.”

Plaza’s 17-year-old stylist Jessica Paster responded to the comment, writing, “I did 7 fittings…really…I wanted underboob.”

Another commenter added: “Underboob is great, it’s the weird thing it’s done to her chest/stomach that fills the dress. It’s a nice color and fabric, though,” while a third said they thought the underboob “looked like a mistake.”

While on stage at the SAG Awards with the rest of the “White Lotus” cast, Plaza also appeared to be adjusting the bodice of her dress following an interaction with her co-star Jon Gries.

Gries later told Page Six that he said, “You might want to fix that first,” referring to the underbust that was showing underneath her dress, after suggesting she move closer to the front of the stage so that she can be seen more easily.

Paster spoke to WWD about the decision to dress Plaza in a bold dress for the event.

“I have worked with Aubrey Plaza for almost 17 years. When she was nominated, I wanted something sexy, up to date and modern,” she told the publication. “I have worked with Michael for many years and he came up with something perfect for us. Every time I explain to Michael what I want out of a look, he gets it spot on every time.”

Plaza also told Vogue that she thought the dress was “glamorous and chic.”

“We tried to capture a modern ’70s vibe,” Plaza said. “I loved the beautiful brown color of the dress and the sexy cut outs. It felt sexy but not over the top.”

Paster didn’t immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
