OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Major League Baseball is reviewing a video circulating on social media This appears to show that Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon grabbed a fan’s shirt through the guard rails in the stands after Thursday night’s game in Oakland, a league spokesman said Friday.
Rendon appears to have grabbed the fan’s shirt through the railings near his chest and exchanged words with him before seemingly swiping at the brim of the man’s ball cap and heading into the tunnel.
Angels spokesman Adam Chodzko said the team had no comment. The Angels aren’t playing on Friday, but the club expects Rendon to address the video at the clubhouse on Saturday before the game against the Oakland Athletics in Oakland.
The video shows the fan, dressed in A’s colors, approaching the railing as Rendon faces him from the tunnel passage below. Rendon then appears to grab the man’s shirt and ask him what he just said, accusing the fan of calling him a derogatory term before swiping at his ball cap.
The A won the game 2-1.
