Ahead of this May, which marks the 20th anniversary of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s last bow Buffy the vampire slayer with the Season 7 finale, the The actress is back in the supernatural TV space with wolf pack. The new series follows two teenagers as they come to terms with their new identities as werewolves as their Los Angeles home is engulfed in flames in a massive (and mysterious) wildfire. When CinemaBlend spoke to Gellar about her starring role and her role as a producer wolf packshe couldn’t shake her vampire-slaying roots.
While chatting with Sarah Michelle Gellar about her upcoming series (get to those with a Paramount+ subscription) on what was important to her when she returned to the subgenre all this time later, she hit us with an A+ Buffy Pun. Here’s what she said:
I don’t think it’s about supernatural TV experience, it’s just about experience in general. And if you’ve been doing it as long as I have and seen things, you can take that experience with you and then bring it into your next one to make it an even better experience and you can build on that. And I think it’s also the way to make sure your voice is heard in relation to the story you want to tell. Because it goes through different iterations so often as you get notes, and that way you really have an actual stake in what the end product is, all pun intended.
It’s no secret that Sarah Michelle Gellar’s time on the set of Buffy the vampire slayer wasn’t a walk in the park. The actress has previously recalled that her experience was “not rosy”. also alluding to an “extremely toxic male set” amid other actresses being talked about allegations of abuse addressed to the show’s creator, Joss Whedon. Gellar’s husband Freddie Prinze Jr. also recently spoke to the actress, who dealt in “a lot of bullshit” on the seven-season series.
Gellar is now many years away from her role Buffy the vampire slayer and allowed to contribute their experience wolf pack. As she cleverly shared, both as a producer and as an actress who got to be present for the young cast who helmed the show, she was able to really put her “stake” in the series. Sarah Michelle Gellar also shared why exploring the werewolf lore was exciting for her this time:
Well I think if you go back in terms of lore these stories were created to explain the inexplicable things in the night that you know are out there that you are afraid of which is usually your own emotions are. And we create these stories behind them to deal with them. And the idea that it’s brightest by moonlight, by the full moon. So it’s your only chance to see the horrors. And I think there’s something really beautiful about that lore. And I also love the idea of the package. If you start thinking that wolves are in a pack, they’re almost smarter than us. It takes us much longer to find our pack than it normally takes a wolf to find theirs. And it’s like you can really learn from what they gather from their pack around them.
wolf pack is created by teenage wolf‘s Jeff Davis and is based on the novel by Edo Van Belkom. Sarah Michelle Gellar plays the lead arson investigator responsible for investigating the Los Angeles wildfire that leads to werewolves biting two teenagers. western world‘s Rodrigo Santoro also plays a park ranger who is the father of two teenage werewolves. The series starts on January 26, with further episodes appearing weekly on Thursdays.
while there is have long had plans for one Buffy rebootHowever, Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn’t appear to be planning to return to the role any time soon She cast her choice for an actress. Since Gellar’s return no doubt makes us nostalgic to revisit her original supernatural series, you can check out ours ranking of each Buffy season here on CinemaBlend.
