New television broadcasting technology launches in Boston on Thursday

Many Boston-area stations, including WCVB Channel 5, will be making a new signal available to viewers over-the-air starting at 9 a.m. Thursday. Over time, this new signal, dubbed NextGen TV, will deliver higher-quality 4K ultra-high-definition video, improved sound quality, and other features that will enhance your viewing experience. To watch this free, new signal from WCVB wirelessly, your TV must be equipped with an antenna that is NextGen ready. For viewers who currently watch with an antenna, you don’t have to do anything to continue getting the signal you’re seeing today. The only local station that may need to be rescanned is WUNI Univision. For more information about this technology, visit: https://www.watchnextgentv.com/
