Authorities are investigating the active crime scene at a popular travel stop location in St. Regis

ST REGIS, Mont. — The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is investigating an incident in the St. Regis Travel Center area of ​​Montana just off I-90 Saturday afternoon.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), the MCSO, the Sander’s County Sheriff’s Office and MHP were involved in a shooting near St. Regis, Mont, involving officers.

MCSO said there was a suspected gunman at the St. Regis. They also reported that shots were fired.

MHP officials said prior to the incident that Idaho law enforcement was pursuing the suspects for an armed robbery.

The St. Regis Travel Center is a popular stop near the Idaho-Montana border for travelers on I-90.

MCSO advised residents to lock their doors and remain in their homes on Saturday morning. Three hours later, Mineral County officials reported that the public was no longer at risk.

However, officials urged residents to avoid the area around the St. Regis Travel Center because it remains an active crime scene.

MHP said all suspects involved in the incident will be held accountable. The Montana Department of The Judicial Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the case.
