A video posted by a former Google employee documenting her unexpected layoff has quickly gone viral.
The video comes shortly after Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. last Friday announced a plan to cut 12,000 jobs, about 6% of the global workforce, amid growth Technology company layoffs.
Nicole Tsai (@nicolesdailyvlog) video posted on Sunday has garnered over 4 million views on TikTok.
Tsais vlogtitled “One day in my life I get fired from Google,” begins with her waking up to an “ominous text” from her boss and finding that she no longer has access to her employee accounts.

As the video continues, Tsai explains that neither she nor her boss had any inclination to fire her and that she reached out to several other teams for more information, only to find that many of her colleagues had also been unexpectedly fired .
Tsai expresses her belief that the layoffs were arbitrary, calling it a “bad game of Russian roulette” as there appeared to be no connection between the performance and the layoff, and that a quick scroll through her LinkedIn feed revealed many Google colleagues feel “equally shocked and taken by surprise”.

Tsai only started posting vlogs about her experiences working at Google’s Los Angeles office last December.
Tsai’s TikTok account, which ranged from videos featuring impressive lunch and snack options, different themed rooms and employee appreciation gifts, had already amassed millions of views before she posted her viral video earlier this week.
Just four days ago, Tsai posted a video of herself having fun on a giant red slide, eating hand-rolled sushi and biking to meetings at Google’s Los Angeles office.

Tsai has only posted two TikToks since then — including her viral layoff video.
In her latest video, uploaded yesterday, Tsai highlights comments on her viral video and predicts layoffs will continue in other regions outside the US, such as Mexico and Canada.
Though she doesn’t comment further on her experience at Google, Tsai says she was “overwhelmed by the love and support” she received in her previous video.
