Alvin Kamara’s off-season arrest remains under league review, and the NFL is monitoring all legal developments, including his Aug. 1 court date, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Sources told ESPN that there is no firm timeline for a disciplinary decision for Kamara under the personal conduct policy, which opens the door for the New Orleans Saints running back to be available in Week 1 — unless he will about the release of the commissioner on paid leave.
League sources told ESPN that the feeling is Kamara could be suspended, but nothing is certain and much could depend on the outcome of the case.
The Saints have looked at freehand return assistance with David Johnson being one of the options.
Kamara was arrested in February for an incident at a Las Vegas casino during Pro Bowl weekend.
The Aug. 1 hearing has already been postponed twice after lawyers asked for more time to consider evidence presented by prosecutors.
Police said video evidence showed Kamara placing his hand on the alleged victim’s chest to stop him from going to the elevator at the rooftop nightclub Drai’s early on February 5. The man pushed Kamara’s hand away and Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Chris Lammons punched the man, according to police.
The man fell to the ground unconscious and the defendants, who included two other men, allegedly stepped on his face, chest and legs, leaving him with fractured face and injuries to his head, knees and arms.
Kamara was playing the Pro Bowl on February 6 before he was arrested.
