Sean Payton will coach again – and not with the Cowboys [Updated]

There will be none Sean Payton He has found a new coaching position at Fox Sports next season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Payton will be the Denver Broncos’ next head coach. The Broncos and Payton’s former team, the New Orleans Saints, has completed compensation.

The Saints receive the Broncos’ 2023 first-round pick (No. 30 overall) and their 2024 second-round pick for Payton and the Saints’ 2024 third-round pick. according to ESPN, citing sources.

This came after Denver reportedly tried to hire a defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers DeMeco Ryans.

Because of that whopping $245 million contract, the Broncos have a long-term commitment to Wilson, although at times in 2022 he played so poorly that he looked like he didn’t belong in the NFL. His dead cap hit won’t drop below $30 million by 2017, so cutting it isn’t feasible for a while.

It’s safe to assume that Payton will be well-compensated, too — after all, the Broncos are owned by the Walton-Bumner (read: Walmart) family. — but he doesn’t jump into a Super Bowl-ready situation. The Broncos need repairs, so he’d better bring his hard hat and lunch bucket.
