Don’t expect Dallas to be hosting a Super Bowl any time soon

Jerry Jones championed the construction of Jerry World – AT&T Stadium – to host major sporting events far and wide, not just eight or nine Dallas Cowboys home games a year. Its building hosted a Super Bowl in 2011, but weather problems at the Metroplex made it a miserable experience. Now an NBA game between the Washington Wizards and the Detroit Pistons has affected by the weather in that region which will contribute to its beautiful layout being less than ideal Place for the big game.

The Pistons lost to the Dallas Mavericks 105-111 on Monday and are still stuck in Dallas. An ice storm caused thousands of cancellations in both Dallas/cont Value and Dallas Love Field Airports and local residents are being asked to stay off the roads. As it is not safe for the Pistons to return to Detroit, the NBA announced their Wednesday night matchup against the Washington Wizards Will be postponed.

It’s not the first time an NBA game has been postponed due to weather. A Wizards game was delayed in 2016 due to a winter storm.

Still as ugly as When winter weather can hit, it’s unusual for the NBA, and even major college basketball, to reschedule games due to weather or other water issues. Scottie Reynolds during the legendary 2010 Snowmageddon that dumped up to three feet of snow in the Washington area took the subway from the Villanova Hotel to Georgetown’s home arena. In 1994, pyrotechnics had fire-fighting water cannons soak the Alamodome with water. 50 minutes later the arena was ready for the game.

Bad weather didn’t force a kickoff delay on the night Aaron Rodgers won his only Super Bowl championship in Arlington, Texas, but this week was a misery for all in town. Falling ice from the stadium roof injured construction workers. The weather affected events in the city and also customers who paid Super Bowl prices to be in the stadium for the game.

Temporary seating has been set up to sell more tickets to the game. Due to the freezing conditions that Installation of these seats was default. The work was not finished until match day, which did not leave enough time for firefighters to inspect them. These seats were deemed unsafe and 1,250 people had to be relocated. According to an NFL statement, there were 400 people who could not be reset and received a refund at triple face value.

A decade later, another ice storm forces an NBA game to be moved 1,000 miles away. This delay, of course, pales in comparison to what people in North and Central Texas are dealing with right now. Hundreds of thousands of homes and other buildings are without power. That may bring back some bad memories of what happened during the February 2021 Texas power crisis, when millions of people lost power during a severe winter storm.

Politics or climate?

Ask Jones why his building hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 2011, and he’d blame politics. In January 2022, he said on 105.3 The Fan that new stadiums are built with the promise of receiving a Super Bowl—just as Dallas hosted its first-ever Super Bowl two years after its new facility opened.

He’s right that Minneapolis, Atlanta, San Francisco, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and New York have all hosted Super Bowls after opening new state-of-the-art stadiums. However, the Super Bowl is taking place in Arizona this year after being there in 2015. The NFL has also repeated other hits from the past, going back to Miami, New Orleans, Tampa and even Houston.

Dallas had his shot to be part of the rotation and he missed badly. With February’s winter storms again affecting transportation, it’s time to recognize that the Metroplex shouldn’t host a worldwide spectacle like the Super Bowl, which requires large numbers of people to travel there at this time of year.

Many other major events are yet to come for Jones’ building to host and keep his elite in the public eye.
