Kevin Durant rumors highlight harsh NBA realities

The Miami Heat has yet to strike a deal in the NBA trade market this offseason. But that’s not because they didn’t try.

With the rumors of their interest in guys like Kevin Durant or Donovan Mitchell, albeit with Mitchell as a secondary option to Durant as the Miami Heat’s main priority, KD Being top-billing is probably the same story playing out in other buildings around the NBA.

But again, the Heat are among those trying.

Now, the addition of a high-impact guy might be all it takes to make the Heat completely over the top, and especially when they don’t have to send any of their key players to finish it off. But that’s spot on, for a player like Durant they probably would have to, and especially considering that’s what the Nets seem to want.

Specifically, they are reportedly only interested in a bundle that includes Bam Adebayo for Durant. Here’s what Adebayo had to say about those reports and potential trades.

The Miami Heat seem to be doing everything they can to win Kevin Durant along with a few other teams. The whole thing sheds light on the harsh realities of the NBA.

“It is what it is, control what you can control,” Adebayo said. “Of course it’s an opportunity for something, but in my opinion, control what you can control. I can’t control this. So do what I did. I get up early. I work out. Have fun with these kids. And I’ll go home and go to sleep.”

While that was one way to approach any rumor or noise that you might be the subject of a trade in the NBA, here’s a different outside reaction. The other side of Adebayo’s more humble approach is one that many players don’t shy away from either.

Recently, as gossip began to circulate about the Celtics and their search for a bid for Kevin Durant, a deal package that included one of their stars, Jaylen Brown, surfaced. Apparently he didn’t take the gossip as easily as Adebayo did.

While trade talks seem far from over, it will eventually be a finite reality if Durant is indeed postponed. Some players from whatever team he lands will be transferred.

That’s just the tough nature of the business. Contracts, team reviews, trade talks, loyalty and the like can change at any time – at least in many situations.

For what it’s worth, the Miami Heat shouldn’t trade Bam Adebayo, and expecting that to happen might not be a smart bet. Again and again, this is just the business they are all in.

So it’s not impossible either.
