“I feel like I’m in a place where it is what it is,” Theron said of her career. “I don’t think working more will change my profile. It was just always a mediocre ride. I’ve never been one of those people that’s on a Kim Kardashian level. But I feel like it’s just always been that thing.”

“I didn’t grow up in America,” Theron said, “so I’m always trying to stay afloat with the school system and the exams because it’s unfamiliar to me. My education was just so different than what my kids have in America. And so there are a lot of bells and whistles that come with being a parent I didn’t grow up with.

The Mad Max star touched on what Hollywood was like early in her career, saying she had to be “loud” to get noticed.

“The majority of my 20s and my 30s and the way I grew up was very much … it was a time when you had to be a loud b-ch just to find some space in the room,” she said. “I don’t necessarily like being that person, but there was definitely a time in my life when that was the only way I could function.”

Aside from being a devoted single mom to her two daughters Jackson, 10, and August, 7, for the past decade, she has found a balance in raising her children and balancing her career. The “Monster” actress adopted her two children.

“It’s so all consuming,” she said. “There are moments with my kids where I’m in the car and they’re in the back and they’re pulled over because I don’t want to lose a call. but i love it I don’t think I could do it if I didn’t love it.”

Theron founded her production company Denver & Delilah in 2003. “Having absolutely no control over what you wear is a big thing that really annoyed me for years,” she said of her career before starting her company.

“When a guy gives you a fitting almost in front of your eyes – that sort of thing is really demeaning. When I started there was no discussion about it. It was like, ‘This is what you wear.’ And I remember one film in particular, this male director, who just kept pulling me in, fitting after fitting after fitting after… And it was just so obvious that it had to do with my sexuality and how f-kable it was to me could make movie. And when I started, that was just the norm,” Theron explained.

A shift in the entertainment industry was something the longtime actress didn’t take lightly.

“I don’t always get it right,” Theron said in her role as producer, “but I’m very conscious of looking at the big picture and saying, ‘Is this really the best thing we can do?'”
