After the critical and commercial success of barbarianActor and filmmaker Zach Cregger has finally titled his next horror drama film weapons.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line Cinema successfully won the rights to the project in a bidding war against several competitors. The deal reportedly cost the studio around eight figures.
weapons is written and directed by Zach Cregger. Further details about its story and characters are still under wraps, but it’s been described as “a cohesive, multi-story horror epic” that’s phonetically compared to Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 film magnolia. According to outlet sources, the deal includes a guaranteed green light and a theatrical run. If the horror film is tested well enough, Cregger will also be given control of the final cut.
weapons is produced by Cregger and Roy Lee for Vertigo Entertainment along with JD Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of Boulderlight Productions. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon has also signed on as a producer.
barbarian was Cregger’s feature film debut as director and writer. It starred Georgina Campbell, Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd, Justin Long, Matthew Patrick Davis, Richard Brake, Kurt Braunohler and Jaymes Butler. The film has grossed over $45 million worldwide on a reported budget of $4 million.
