Here’s some very bad news for PlayStation Plus subscribers

I have some good news and some bad news for PS Plus subscribers. We start with the good.

Sony has unveiled its PlayStation Plus Essential lineup for February. We usually get three free titles every month, but this February we’re getting four – and that’s a pretty good selection!

The four PS Plus games will be available next Tuesday February 7th (so download the January games by the 6th) and include:

  • OlliOlli world
  • Evil Dead: The Game
  • Destiny 2: Beyond Light
  • Mafia: Definitive Edition

This is a skating game, a co-op survival game, a space fantasy loot shooter and a classic crime boss game remastered, all in one month. Not too shabby!

These games have all been leaked in advance, and you can read more about them here.

I’ve played Destiny 2: Beyond Light and the excellent Mafia: Definitive Edition (which I recommend to anyone who enjoys it Grand Theft Auto but want to play a game in this genre that doesn’t have all the side quests and fetch quests) but haven’t tried the other two so will definitely try those.

That’s the good news. Now for the bad news:

Sony also announced today that the PlayStation Plus Collection, which offers PS5 owners a wealth of free games, will be discontinued on May 9th. You’ll keep the games if you’ve already redeemed them, but after May 9th they’re no longer part of your PS Plus subscription.

Here’s the full list of PS Plus Collection games that can be redeemed on PS5 until they’re gone for good:

  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • battlefield 1
  • bloodborne
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (Zombie Chronicles Edition)
  • Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
  • Last days
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • failure 4
  • Final Fantasy 15
  • God of War
  • Notorious second son
  • World of Monster Hunters
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • ratchet and clamp
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • The Last Guardian
  • The Last of Us Remastered
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
  • Until dawn

As you can see, that’s quite a list of amazing games. Almost everything here is great, so make sure you have a PS5 to claim something you haven’t downloaded yet. These will be gone before you know it.
