One of the biggest and most exciting announcements from Sony’s September 2022 State of Play was Rise of Ronin For PS5, a new action RPG from Team Ninja, makers of games like Nioh and Ninja Gaiden. Despite the fact that the game is scheduled to be released only in 2024Rise of the Ronin already appears to be highly anticipated, so much so that Xbox players may be wondering if they’ll get a piece of the action.
Rise of the Ronin Xbox
Unfortunately, Rise of the Ronin isn’t going to the Xbox Series X&S or Xbox One at all. During the State of Play showcase, Rise of the Ronin was announced as a PS5 console exclusive rather than a Time console exclusive, which would suggest that the game may not be making its way to Microsoft’s platform anytime soon.
On top of that, there have been reports since the unveiling of Rise of the Ronin that suggest Sony is pitching in with the game’s development. Sony has an internal development team called XDev, which in the past has been responsible for helping with PlayStation game development from external studios. In the past, the Liverpool-based XDev team has assisted in the creation of games such as LittleBigPlanet 1-3, Heavy Rain, Returnal and more.
Traditionally, Sony Japan would handle similar responsibilities for games developed by third-party studios in Japan, but with the closure of Sony Japan, it appears that an XDev Japan team will join Team Ninja in the development of Rise of the Ronin. is helping. Senior XDev producer Jason Stewart has tweeted that he is teaming up with Team Ninja regarding Rise of the Ronin, working in Japan to do so.

Granted, it’s not a hard confirmation that Rise of the Ronin is never coming to Xbox, as Sony has published games on Xbox in the past. One game in particular, in fact: MLB The Show. However, while we live in a world where Sony can publish and release games on Xbox, MLB: The Show is a licensed sports game, and reports suggest that MLB itself was integral in that decision.
Seeing a new IP like Rise of the Ronin carry over to the Xbox is another story entirely. With the rapid and aggressive expansion of Xbox in Japan recently, gaining titles like Persona, Like a Dragon and Danganronpa, it’s certainly not impossible to watch Rise of the Ronin on Xbox. Still, as Sony is assisting Team Ninja with Ronin’s developmental rise, it will be a very long time after 2024 before that’s a possibility.
About the Rise of Ronin
Rise of the Ronin is a new single-player action RPG from Team Ninja, the brains behind Nioh and Ninja Gaiden.
For seven years, Rise of the Ronin takes place in 18th-century Japan during the Edo period, one of the country’s most notorious eras. With Japan under an oppressive regime and ravaged by disease, you play as a ronin who is “experiencing the most important revolution in Japan’s history, including the darkest and ugliest chapters that many will run away from.” “.
Considering classics like Way of the Samurai as well as Sony’s own Ghost of Tsushima, Rise of the Ronin is expected to release for PS5 in 2024.
