Disney Dreamlight Valley Critter FAQ

Here are some additional tips and information about all things critters at Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Why do you have to feed the critters?

Feeding the critters their favorite treats will allow you to tame them to the point where they become well-equipped companions accompanying you around the valley. Even though they don’t make much of an impact on the world, they still look adorable by your side and allow you to cuddle and caress them A on Xbox and Switch, X on PlayStation, or I on PC.

How often do you need to feed a critter to tame it?

When you feed a critter its favorite food, it will display a heart, indicating that they are close to being tamed and becoming a potential mate. However, not all critters take the same amount of time to become domesticated. While squirrels usually only take a meal once to be domesticated, more difficult animals, such as foxes or crows, may take up to four or more times. You’ll have to be diligent to collect them all.

Why won’t the crater let you near it?

Some critters, like alligators and raccoons, are easily spooked and take longer to come around. Sometimes you may find that they won’t let you near them at all. In my own experience, I’ve found this glitch to be higher when there’s a lot of obstacles and debris around the biome. The critters will try to escape but get stuck on objects or take too long to track the space around them. You can always exit the biome and tenant to try again or make sure the area is better cleared before trying again.

How can you equip a critter as a companion?

Once you feed a critter its favorite foods enough times, it will eventually become an available companion. You can change your companions at any time, just like you can change your other accessories or outfit. Open your character inventory by pressing why on Xbox and Switch, Triangle on PlayStation, or I on PC. Then select the Wardrobe tab. Here you’ll find the Companions category, which will show you all the critters you’ve tamed and can equip.

How can you get the special critter companion?

There are special critters companions that you can get outside of critters that you find roaming the valley. These are often specially themed critters for a Disney movie or a special event. You can usually find them unlockable from the Star Path or sometimes by completing quests for various characters.

We hope that this list of critter schedules and tips will help you tame the companion you’ve been wanting and become better acquainted with how critters work at Disney Dreamland Valley. We’ll keep this page updated with any critters we add in the future, so keep checking back.
