The answer to why I haven’t posted workout videos…
It’s true. I haven’t posted a training video in a long time. And you know what? It was nice.
Nice because it’s the first time in 13 years that I’ve been online that nobody has said anything mean about my body.
When I posted that first video back in 2009, I was so scared someone would comment on my form. But they weren’t after my technique, they were after my looks. It’s sad that what started out as simply teaching my students Pilates has grown into an open forum for body shaming.
Why don’t you have abs?
Why is your butt flat?
Why are you doing hip dips?
you are getting fat
You are too skinny.
You don’t look like other coaches.
where’s your muscle
Now you look like a man.
Your workout shouldn’t be working if you look like this.
If you cared about your career, you would lose weight.
When I temporarily retired from the fitness industry, I realized what a toxic environment I had been living in on a daily basis. No more people shoving their ideologies down my throat and telling me how to look or how to eat or how stupid I am for not listening to them. In fact, this break has given me the space and breathing room to reconnect with my relationship with food, fitness and my body.
With the negative chatter silenced, I can now focus on what my body is telling me I need. Not what other people yell at me about.
I enjoy spending my time driving product development so much as both the POPFLEX and Blogilates brands are growing rapidly.
I’m in a big design groove and feel so in tune. Nowadays it feels strange not to be afraid to open my comments. Before I had to take a deep breath and prepare my body for the hurtful and sometimes hateful comments.
Anyway, here’s my first workout video in a loooong time. Let’s see how that goes.
The workout:
- Alt single knee-ins x 10
- Double squats x 10
- skewers x 10
Ps: My sliders are the new ones from Blogilates at Target! You can buy them online at target.com or in store! If you don’t have sliders, use towels on hardwood or paper plates on carpet!
