I like exercises that give me an aerobic upper body workout. My favorite upper body workout, hand weight walking, is currently somewhat hampered as my sore SI joint limits the length of my walks. My PT facility had a machine that allowed me to ride my arm, which I enjoyed and thought it would be nice to reproduce at home. My recumbent bike puts the pedals in a pretty ideal position when placed on your back. I tried it and got a good workout, but gripping the pedals with my hand wasn’t too comfortable. This was simply fixed with a dowel as shown in the pictures.

I can do a nice upper body workout with this setup. I can just cruise at an easy pace or make it as hard as I want by doing some intervals. Here is a video showing arm cycling. This is now a pleasant addition to my upper body routine.
