Sounders lives up to expectations as first MLS team to compete in FIFA Club World Cup | Seattle Sounders

According to veteran midfielder Cristian Roldan, it is “fitting” for Rave Green to carry the torch as the first MLS side of the tournament.

“The backbone of the club has been here for a long time and we’re getting better every year,” said Roldan. “We talked about the standards that the club has and I think the magic words were trophies, competition and having continuity within the franchise so I think it fits because in a league full of par the Sounders are doing a great job to maintain these standards.

The competitive nature of the Sounders also brings with it expectations. With the massive tournament ahead, the players are confident they will impress on the pitch. “Every game has its challenges, but we’re ready to go out there and compete,” said defender Alex Roldan. “No club has a name too big for us, anyone can win on any day.”

The team’s successes in the USA reign supreme, but with Sounders’ participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, the organization looks to continue to prove their worth around the world.
