Fifa World Cup sponsors were furious at how Salt Bae, the celebrity chef, was able to access invaluable free publicity by taking to the pitch after Argentina’s final win over France.
This type of access would have been for sponsors like Goldstaub who, despite paying large sums to Fifa, are subject to strict restrictions on promoting their products at games. So it was particularly galling for their executives in Qatar to see that the Turkish chef appeared to be free passage to join the celebrations.
Salt Bae – real name Nusret Gokce – appeared to be accompanied by someone who photographed him with Lionel Messi and other players. These were then posted to Instagram for everyone to see
