Official match ball for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ introduced by adidas

As the ninth football in a row to be produced by adidas for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, OCEAUNZ’s design is inspired by the unique natural landscapes of the two host countries.

  • “OCEAUNZ” was launched as the official match ball for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™

  • The ninth consecutive football developed by adidas for the FIFA Women’s World Cup features the latest Connected Ball Technology to improve match data and insights

  • The design of the official match ball was inspired by the unique landscapes of the host countries Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand

OCEAUNZ, the Official Match Ball of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, was launched in spectacular fashion from Sydney / Gadigal, Australia and flies by helicopter over Sydney’s famous skyline before arriving at Marks Park overlooking Bondi Beach.

The design of the ninth consecutive football produced by adidas for the FIFA Women’s World Cup is inspired by the unique natural landscapes of the two host nations, with visuals referencing the mighty mountains of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Australia’s connection with the Indian Ocean.

A celebration of the cultures of both host countries, the Ball features designs by Aboriginal artist Chern’ee Sutton and Māori artist Fiona Collis. Her art is also part of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 brand identity, Beyond Greatness™.

Speaking on the launch of OCEAUNZ, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said: “adidas has created an iconic FIFA Women’s World Cup Official Match Ball that reflects diversity, inclusivity and togetherness, fitting with the themes of the first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup shared by two different ones organized by countries from different confederations.

“This edition of the tournament will be very special and the rich cultures of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand as invoked on OCEAUNZ will surely carry the experience of fans and teams visiting #BeyondGreatness.”

The name of the official match ball reflects the meeting of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand as the tournament’s host nations.

OCEAUNZ features the same connected ball technology used in Qatar at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, delivering accurate ball data that is made available to Video Match Officials in real time.

Combined with player position data and through the application of artificial intelligence, the innovative Connected Ball technology contributes to FIFA’s semi-automated offside technology and provides video assistant referees with instant information to optimize decision-making.

OCEAUNZ features:

  • CTR CORE – A breakthrough core in the ball designed to improve accuracy and consistency, supporting a fast, accurate play with maximum form and air retention

  • SPEED – The ball’s polyurethane (PU) skin features micro and macro textures and a new 20-piece plate shape that improves aerodynamics

  • CONNECTED BALL TECHNOLOGY – A suspension system in the center of the ball houses and stabilizes a 500Hz Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) motion sensor that provides unprecedented insight into every element of the ball’s movement. The sensor is powered by a rechargeable battery that can be charged by induction.

OCEAUNZ will be available in adidas stores, select retailers and online at www.adidas.com/football.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 begins in 177 days with New Zealand and Norway in the opening game on July 20, before Australia take on the Republic of Ireland later that day. The final will take place on August 20th in Sydney / Gadigal.
