After a prolonged period of fantasy FUT content deluge FIFA 23EA has decided it’s time for a new promo event. The latest additions to Ultimate Team are called FUT Ballers. They have an interesting, responsive upgrade mechanic. Content quality is a whole different issue.

One thing about the FUT Ballers campaign that cannot be denied is its uniqueness. The previous event, Fantasy FUT, had a total of 56 players spread across two main versions and a ton of additional content via SBCs and objectives. FUT Ballers says “The hell with all this” and starts with a total of two players: Mason Mount and Luis Diaz. This is in line with the whole concept of the new campaign, which demands a lot more commitment from the players.

What are FUT ballers in it FIFA 23?

The fun FUT Ballers promo is another dynamic setup from EA. FUT Baller comes in two types: Squad Building Challenges and Objectives. FUT Ballers goals are called “Play to Style” to differentiate them from other goals. Completing them will reward you with the player as well as a future FUT Birthday Team 1 pack available from March 24th. FUT Ballers SBCs generally feature weaker players than FUT Ballers Objectives, but that’s because the former can be upgraded beyond their base stats.

How to upgrade FUT Ballers FIFA 23

Only SBC FUT Ballers can be upgraded. The first thing you have to do is solve a FUT Ballers SBC. At launch, Luis Diaz is the only such SBC, so we’ll use that as an example. Base FUT Ballers Diaz has 86 OVR.

In order to level up a FUT Ballers player, you need to complete a specific set of objectives with them after solving their SBC. In the case of Luis Diaz, you must complete the first challenge in Mason Mount’s Play to Style Objectives tree, which states that you must score a finesse goal in five different matches in either Division Rivals or Squad Battles on at least semi-professional difficulty. This triggers a +2 upgrade to boost Diaz to 88 OVR.

This is how all FUT Baller upgrades work. EA will release an SBC and an Objectives player, with the former’s upgrade being part of the latter’s Play to Style challenges.

Committed FIFA 23 Players in FUT Ballers Upgrades is objectively a better gameplay approach than simply waiting for real-world developments to upgrade your FUT item. But it’s too bad that this neat mechanic, judging by the initial items at least, is wasted on nothing more than late-season SBC fodder.
