Mindy Kaling winces at past fashion choices: ‘Terrible’

A not so nice journey into the past! Mindy Kaling isn’t proud of her past fashion choices.

The actress, 43, appeared on See what’s happening live with Andy Cohen on Tuesday, August 9, where she was asked to play a game of “Versace or Hibachi.” The game requires guests to look at previous photos of themselves and critique their own style. If they like the outfit in question they say “Versace”, if not they can “burn” the look by saying “hibachi”.

Host first Andy Cohen pulled up a 2008 photo of Kaling wearing “ruffles and gloves.” That office Alum quickly burst out laughing and slammed the ensemble. “My God, terrible,” Kaling said. Next, the Bravo mogul, 54, shared a shot of Kaling attending a Fox event in 2017 in a dress with a “trippy” pattern. Kaling was once again not pleased and said, “I’ll hibach that too.”

For the 2008 Emmys, Kaling appeared in a pleated brown dress that Cohen described as “very Studio 54.” Kaling bowed his head in shame. “Hibachi! I really hate myself,” she joked, before asking Cohen to “find me a look where I look good.”

That glitter every day The author responded with, “I think you look great in all of this!”

Cohen then pulled up a photo that she really liked, much to Kaling’s relief. “Okay, Versace,” the late night star said of her appearance at a Television Critics Association event – for which she rocked a dazzling floral dress.

Their joy was short-lived, however, when Cohen showed off a photo of the comedian at New York Fashion Week during her “Kelly Kapoor era.” Kaling quipped, “Obviously hibachi.”

“I feel like I was tricked,” she continued. “I know I looked good in a photo… it just feels like a nightmare.”

Though her personal style has evolved, Kaling’s wardrobe remains vibrant and fun.

The producer often wears colorful ensembles, including vibrant dresses by Christopher John Rogers and sexy two-piece sets by Laquan Smith. Perhaps her most standout look for Summer 2022 is the iridescent turquoise Bottega Veneta knit dress, which she debuted via Instagram on June 11. “A blue moment,” the Massachusetts native said of the dress, which she paired with a matching cardigan, Chanel pearls and Aquazzura heels.
