warrior nun spoilers follow.
It’s been over two years since the first season was released on Netflix, but warrior nun is finally back.
Adapted from the Manga series by Ben Dunn Areala warrior nun, This pulpy fantasy series follows a teenage orphan who discovers she’s possessed by superpowers when she’s chosen to be the Halo carrier for a secret sect of demon-hunting nuns.
Given this sinful Season 1 finale, our prayers were answered when Netflix renewed the series for another season.
This time around, Ava (Alba Baptista) and Beatrice (Kristina Tonteri-Young) are hiding in Switzerland from Adriel (William Miller), a self-proclaimed prophet who has been released from his prison under the Vatican. Adriel’s influence grows worldwide and it’s up to the Order of the Cruciform Sword to stop him.
In keeping with tradition, season two ended with another one cliffhanger (or two), so allow us to break it all down for you.
Warrior Nun Season 2 Ending Explained
In an attempt to stop Adriel from birthing her demons and making Earth her kingdom, the finale opens with Ava using the crown of thorns to enter her kingdom and make contact with her former master, Reya.
Ava wakes up in the middle of a Beatrice and Vincent quarrel, stating that she knows exactly what to do. Naturally, the Halo Bearer plays these cards close to her chest, lest she be forced to tell the other nuns that in order to defeat Adriel she must sacrifice herself by using the Halo’s power to detonate the Divinium Bomb in the Michael’s chest.
The sisters attack Adriel’s Cathedral and track down the Arc he would use to drag Reya to Earth and imprison her, but it’s not where Jillian told them it would be. In order to save them, it turns out that Ava had Jillian lie about her location. Ava then speaks plainly about herself and Michael’s plan before kissing Beatrice goodbye.
But the plan goes awry when Lilith (Lorena Andrea) instantly kills Michael and rips the bomb from his chest. Although Ava manages to fight Adriel and Lilith by herself and blast her anyway, she is mortally wounded, while Adriel quickly recovers and reminds her that he cannot be killed in this realm.
But just when all hope seemed lost, Camilla destroys the cross built by Adriel to defeat the power of the Halo, and Ava remembers something she learned in Reya’s kingdom.
Using the force of semantics and the new power of the Halo, she summons the Tarasks and they destroy Adriel once and for all. We hope. Fortunately, Reya arrives in time to send the Tarasks home before they can attack Ava and Beatrice.
It’s not exactly a happy ending, as Ava is still hurt. Lilith suggests sending her through the Arc as a last ditch effort to keep her alive. After Beatrice and Ava tearfully say their goodbyes, Lilith warns Beatrice that a holy war is on the horizon.
But wait! That’s not all. A surprise post-credits scene reveals that Beatrice has decided to leave the Order of the Cruciform Sword. As she leaves the church, the cruciform sword begins to glow…
