Dwayne Johnson says his mother is ‘fine’ after late night car crash, ‘will continue to be assessed’

Dwayne Johnson said he was counting his blessings after his mother survived a car crash.

The 50-year-old actor and former WWF icon shared a photo on his Instagram account on Thursday, showing a badly wrecked red car. He said his mother, Ata Johnson, 74, was in the vehicle.

“Angels of mercy watched over my mother as she was in a car accident late last night,” Johnson wrote in the caption. “She will survive and continue to be evaluated.”

He added some words of praise for his mother’s resilience: “This woman survived lung cancer, a rocky marriage, a head-on collision with a drunk driver and a suicide attempt. She is a surviving, in a way that makes angels and miracles real.”

Johnson gave no specific details about the crash, but thanked first responders. “Thank you LAPD and LAFD for being so caring and focused,” he wrote. “Thank you for staying on the phone and talking to me about everything.”

He concluded: “I have one relative left, so if you still have your mum and dad, make sure you hug them tight, because you never know when you’ll get that 3 a.m. call that we never want to receive.”

His message was answered by a variety of names from the sports and theater worlds, including best wishes from Olympian Michael Phelps and Bond star Pierce Brosnan.

Johnson has spoken about his mother’s strength before and shared sweet feelings about her on social media for years. In honor of his 72nd birthday in October 2020, he celebrated “Mama Rock” with a touching post on Instagram.

“We walk this unpredictable road of life and we never know what lies ahead – so we do our best to treat each day for what it is – a true blessing,” he wrote. “And no one embodies that philosophy better than my mom. She’s a survivor, so every day she lives life to the fullest and is a shining beacon of love, joy and kindness.”

Johnson’s father, professional wrestler Rocky Johnson, died of a pulmonary embolism in 2020 at the age of 75.
